While being a solo founder is all well and good, having a team of co-founders with your projected team culture, a wide range of skill sets, and experiences you do not possess is even much better. Adding to the team is a delicate process as your choices can push your startup in the direction you envisioned or cripple it.
If you decide to make your decision from the culture perspective, consider that “the most important way you influence culture is by who you pick to be in a team.” The management team you build has the power to effect the desired culture in your employees. And if you decide to do it on a wealth of experience basis, co-founders can offer you a fresh perspective on issues you're not well-informed on. Furthermore, a management team will reduce the weight on your shoulders through shared workload, which will inherently allow you to grow and scale faster.
Nevertheless, like every valuable thing, building a cohesive founding team takes effort. Although it might be difficult to have a group of people with varying personalities come together as one united leadership team, a team must find common ground for the startup's long-term success.
